What Is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns, or "caps," are porcelain pieces that cover your entire tooth down to the gum line. Ideal for treating severely damaged teeth, crowns restore your smile, alleviate pain, and prevent future complications.

Purpose of Crowns

Dental crowns repair large cavities and teeth post-root canal therapy. They're effective for teeth damaged by trauma, cracked, or chipped. Crowns are also used for cosmetic purposes, offering a superior solution for small, misshapen, or severely stained teeth compared to other treatments like veneers or bonding.

What to Expect

The Crown Placement Process:

Initial Consultation
Begin the process with a consultation at Clairemont Dentistry. We'll diagnose your oral health issues and determine if dental crowns are suitable for your treatment.
Tooth Preparation
Depending on your needs, tooth preparation may occur immediately or in a separate appointment. We will trim the tooth to create a stable platform for the crown.
Building the Dental Crown
We take scans and impressions of your trimmed tooth and send them to a dental lab. Technicians create a custom-fitted, durable crown. A temporary crown will protect your tooth during this period.
Final Crown Placement
When your permanent crown arrives, you'll return for the final placement. We will remove the temporary crown, clean your tooth, and bond the new crown securely in place.
